South Coast surfing

There are surfing beaches and reefs right along England's South Coast but the relatively small & narrow English Channel make classic surfing conditions rare.

Prevailing swells are from the southwest. Long-travelled swells from the west-southwest funnel into the Channel. Rideable, though more confused swells are often generated from the south and east.

Classic conditions occur with a strong and preferably slow-moving storm out to the west of Portugal, and a weak high over Ireland when the swell hits.
