Surfing in the North East

The East Coast of England has surprisingly consistent surf and a good choice of beaches and reefs. There is often an East Coast wave when it's flat across Devon & Cornwall.

SWELLS - A storm across the top of the North Sea / Scandinavia will generate a northerly swell down the North Sea. The cleanest, longest fetch swells are from lows way up near the Arctic Circle, but swells also come in from the east & southeast.

WINDS - The prevailing winds are from the SW, which is directly offshore. However, due to the small size of the North Sea, rideable waves often coincide with onshore winds.

For classic conditions, look for a strong, slow-moving low above Norway, and a weak high pressure in the bottom of the North Sea.
