Surfing Devon & Cornwall

This area of coastline is the most consistent in England and the most popular in the UK.

SWELLS - The most common swell direction is from the west. As most storms track diagonally across the Atlantic, swells tend to swing around from the SW to the NW. There can also be a northerly swell running down the Irish Sea, but due to the short fetch, this will tend to be choppy & confused.

WINDS - Prevailing winds are from the southwest. There will be offshore winds when there is a high pressure over Scotland or a weak low in the Bay of Biscay.

Classic conditions occur when there is a strong and preferably slow-moving storm (or hurricane) out to the west or southwest, and a weak high near Scotland when the swell hits.
