Weather forecasting has undergone a revolution in the past two decades, mainly due to weather satellites (providing real-time measurements around the globe) and the massive improvements in computer processing power (allowing high resolution weather forecasting of the whole planet). In the early 90s, it was sometimes difficult to predict which day a swell would hit Europe. Now, with the aid of satellite data, wave buoy telemetry, high resolution wave modelling and supercomputers, we can accurately forecast long-distance swells to within a 2 hour time frame. |
